FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Local man’s dream comes true
With the opening of Virtual Velocity
Southwestern Michigan’s very first Gaming Center and Cyber Cafe
Portage, Michigan – January 29, 2009 – Joshua Knapp is a dreamer. One of his oldest dreams is coming true this
month with the opening of Virtual Velocity Gaming Center, Portage, Michigan’s first computer console gaming center
and cyber cafe.
Josh Knapp is like many other Generation Y guys who grew up playing games on home computers and gaming
systems, setting up impromptu tournaments and staying up late on weekend nights, racking up their scores as they
conquered each level. These guys still game, but now they’re fitting it in around jobs, families, and other everyday
responsibilities. Some, however, like Josh, never stop dreaming.
Virtual Velocity was born as a result of a college business course a few years ago where the assignment was to set up
a dream business in a paper. Josh got an “A” on the paper but he wasn’t satisfied with that. He began to think about
making that dream business a reality. What if Portage, his hometown, could have its own family-friendly
computer/console gaming center and cyber cafe where customers could purchase blocks of game time to play
everything from Xbox, Wii and Guitar Hero to World of Warcraft or even Solitaire or Bejeweled? What if tournaments and
leagues could be set up and birthday party packages offered? What if the center could become the premier
entertainment center for southwestern Michigan families?
Fast forward a few years, add a couple of partners, with their families, (along with Josh’s own family), countless hours
of research, meetings and brain-storming sessions, raising of the capital, searching for the right location and pulling
together all the pieces, and now, Joshua Knapp’s Virtual Velocity dream is becoming a reality! It offers a complete
entertainment package for the whole family, including a couple dozen high-end PCs, Xbox 360s, and Wiis, with over 150
games, all available to play on a per-hour basis, big screen TVs, as well as energy drinks, soft drinks and snacks, to
help keep the gamers competing at peak proficiency.
“Games and gaming centers are the future of entertainment,” said Knapp, “and we’re thrilled to bring Virtual Velocity to
Portage. In our research, we’ve found some gaming centers in our country’s larger metropolitan areas but, until now,
even with all the gamers in our area, there hasn’t been anything comparable here. Now, with Virtual Velocity, there is!”
Centrally located in the heart of Portage, at 6749 S. Westnedge, Suite J, (in the Target shopping center complex), Virtual
Velocity celebrates its Grand Opening on Friday, February 6th. Joshua Knapp will be there. He’ll be the one with the big
smile, welcoming southwest Michigan’s many gamers, and pinching himself to make sure he’s not still dreaming!
